From March 15-16, 2012 the first Fraunhofer Direct Digital Manufacturing Conference took place at the Grand Hotel Esplanade in Berlin. With 40 presentations in three parallel sessions, 4 keynotes and 20 posters, DDMC 2012 was a truly immersive experience for the almost 200 conference delegates participating. The conference covered the entire range of topics in additive manufacturing, starting with methodologies, design and simulation, right up to more application-specific topics, e.g. from the realm of medical engineering and electronics.
The organisers are particularly pleased that the participants, representing 17 different countries, came from industry and academia in almost equal part and, based on the networking observed on the conference floor and at the conference dinner, it seems everyone went home with new contacts and insights.
Our congratulations go to the winners of the Best Paper Award (Simon Höges et. al. from BEGO Medical GmbH) on “Continuous Additive Manufacturing” and Best Poster Award (Telma Dias Ferreira et al. from the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, Portugal) on “Advanced Strategies for Jewellery Production”. The awards were presented at the end of the conference by conference chair Axel Demmer.
We would like to thank all speakers and participants for ensuring DDMC 2012 was such a resounding success and look forward to seeing you at the next DDMC Conference in 2014.
